Ronald Reagan as Dr. Frank-N-Furter in THE RONNIE HORROR PICTURE SHOW
Ah, the Reagan years. Full of post-apocalyptic visions of the future, that for those of us in the Rust Belt, mostly came true. Well, in 1980 after Ronald Reagan was elected, ABC's sketch comedy show Fridays knew the counter culture was at its end, so much so that they put Ronald Reagan in a corset and had him woe young liberals to conservatism in an epic Rocky Horror Picture Show spoof.
The sketch clocks in at around 20 minutes, which would be an entire half-hour show on broadcast TV today. But the satire is so sharp and the lyrics so biting, you hang in there long enough to finally see Ronnie... played by John Roarke. (Michael Richards as Brad and Larry David as Nixon certainly help, too.)
These clips has been on YouTube for years, but given that we're in an election year, it's a good time for another look at The Ronnie Horror Picture Show.
