Chicago's Portage Theater to Be Designated a Landmark?

Now that's one way to save the Portage Theater!

Chicago's Historic Preservation Division of the city's Department of Housing and Economic Development will ask the Commission on Chicago Landmarks to take a preliminary vote on landmark status for the threatened Chicago movie house. Last month, Chicago Tabernacle, a church, moved to have the building rezoned so that it could move into the building. But that news was met by a wave of opposition from Six Corners residents.

The vote will take place tomorrow evening. In the meantime, head over to the Save the Portage Theater Facebook page and join the 2,800+ individuals who want to keep this cultural center alive.
